Coaches News 10.03.11

Dear TICA Member,

Here is the latest news from the Tennis Ireland Coaches Association.

At the following web page on our website we publish the name, coaching level and mobile number of members who wish to use this facility to advertise their coaching availability: It is now time to update this information to reflect the 2011 TICA membership. If you DO NOT wish your details to appear on the updated list, please send me an email to let me know this, on or before 8am on Monday 14th March. If I do not hear from you by then, I will assume you wish your details to appear.

If you wish your details to appear, you need not take any action.

Last week you will have received an email and/or text from me about someone phoning coaches, claiming to work for Google, and claiming to have the support of TICA in contacting you. As I stated at the time, this person had no contact or involvement with TICA, and caution was advised in any dealings with him. For future reference, please be advised that if we are working with an outside body to offer approved services or deals to TICA members, we will contact you first to let you know that we have made a relevant agreement. Therefore if you are contacted by anyone claiming to be getting in touch with the approval of TICA, and you have not been informed of this by TICA, you should treat his or her claims with scepticism.

Tennis Ireland today announced the appointment of ex TICA Chairman Pat Crowe as the Irish Fed Cup non-playing Captain for the period 2011 and 2012. Pat is a Level 3 coach and has held the position of Tennis Ireland Director at Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club since 1993.

Pats first assignment in charge of an Irish Fed Cup team will be in Cairo week commencing 2nd May when Ireland take on countries such as Norway, Tunisia and South Africa. Despite the recent political unrest in Egypt, the International Tennis Federation confirmed yesterday that the event would proceed as scheduled.

TICA Chairman Liam Cassidy is a very busy on court coach, but he has not let that stand in the way of playing high quality tennis! At the recent National Indoor Championships held at David Lloyd Belfast, Liam won the over 40`s singles title, beating Edward Oakenfull in the final on a 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 score line. Liam has represented Ireland for a number of years at National Veterans level, and it looks as if he will continue to be in the running to play for Ireland for some considerable time to come!

TICA member Lesley O`Halloran was due to take part in the World Individual Veterans Championships in New Zealand, but this event was cancelled due to the tragic earthquake in the Christchurch region.

Lesley has won the doubles in this event for the last number of years, and was a finalist in the singles event in 2010.

The AGM has been postponed twice, due to difficulties attaining a quota. We plan to reschedule it for during another event that will serve to bring sufficient coaches together for us to deal with this important piece of business.
