Dear TCI Member,

Below please find the latest news from Tennis Coach Ireland. Let me know if you have any news, comments or suggestions of your own that you would like to share with other members.

All the best,

Peter.

MEEHAN AND ASSOCIATES APPOINTED OFFICIAL ACCOUNTANTS TO TCI: A reminder that Tennis Coach Ireland has announced Meehan and Associates as our official accountants, and that the company is available to provide accountancy and other financial services to all Tennis Coach Ireland members, at very competitive rates. Many of you will know Billy, who currently serves on the Board of Directors of Tennis Ireland, and has been Honorary Treasurer of Leinster Tennis for over 20 years. Billy has been appointed by quite a few tennis coaches (including myself!) to look after their accounts. Given Billy’s deep knowledge of the game in Ireland, and his experience looking after the interests of many coaches, we are convinced that Meehan and Associates is the right organization for us to recommend to you as a member when you need advice on tax and accounts as well as general business advice. You can contact Billy at 087 258 1122 and info@meehanandassociates.ie.

For full details of the course, please go to the MTI website:http://www.playmoderntennis.com/book-mti-diploma-course.html. If you complete this course, MTI will inform TCI of that fact, and the points will be automatically credited to you.

PLAYER RETENTION ARTICLE by BRIAN DOYLE: “I have being coaching tennis full time for just over 20 years, with most of my coaching being with children from 6-16 years. A key thing is to keep the players playing tennis – it keeps me in a job! One of the difficulties associated with”…read on here: http://goo.gl/8Rb3sl

CHILD PROTECTION COURSE NOW PART OF CPD: In previous years the Child Protection Course that coaches must take as part of the Tennis Ireland Licensing System did not carry CPD points. However, in order to make it easier for coaches to achieve both Licensing and 100 CPD points, TCI has now decided to award 25 CPD points for this course (whether you take it online or ‘face-to-face’). To be credited with points for this course, you must send proof of attendance (or a copy of the certificate you receive when you pass the course online) to Nicola Herbert at nicki.herbert@tenniscoachireland.ie).

NEW BOOK: THE SECRETS OF SPANISH TENNIS: As a tennis coach, you will want to know how and why Spanish players have been so successful on the world stage of late. “The Secrets of Spanish Tennis” is a new book by American coach Chris Lewit that provides all the answers. The book contains full details of the drills these coaches use on court every day, and which they see as crucial in helping develop great players. One of Lewit’s great innovations here is to tie each drill to a ‘live demonstration’ on his website www.secretsofspanishtennis.com. You can buy the book on Amazon: goo.gl/UQxB6j

A NOTE FROM JOHN YANDELL AT www.tennisplayer.net: The number one serve power source? No it is not – for the millionth time – the mystical wrist snap. You have to understand how your shoulder works. And you will. And also why Stan Wawrinka’s backhand works. And many other cool things.
