Dear TCI Member,
Below please find the latest news from Tennis Coach Ireland. I recently carried out a survey of tennis clubs in Leinster, in order to find out in which areas they most need assistance and advice. The standout finding was that clubs would really appreciate help in two areas: firstly “Marketing the Club” (finding new members, for example running Open Days). Secondly, the issue of“Retaining Members”. If you would like a copy of the full survey results, drop me a line. And please let me know if you have any news, comments or suggestions of your own that you would like to share with other members.

Did you know that we now have our own YouTube channel? The purpose is to create a bank of videos that will serve to advertise TCI coaches as the coach of choice for all players. MEEHAN AND ASSOCIATES – OFFICIAL ACCOUNTANTS TO TCI:
There can be certain advantages as a tennis coach to having your own company. However, important changes in company law are imminent. If you would like to know more about the possibility of forming a company, or about the upcoming changes to the law, please contact our official accountant Billy Meehan at 087 258 1122 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
NEW ISSUE OF ‘Coaching & Sport Science Review’ INCLUDES ARTICLES BY IRISH COACHES
The work of Irish tennis coaches is now being recognized on a world level by the International Tennis Federation, the games overall governing body. The latest edition of the ITF’s flagship educational journal, the ‘Coaching & Sport Science Review’ is the first to carry articles by two Irish coaches. Well known Dublin based coach David Wilson has written a piece on “The Foundations of Learning”, while I have contributed on the subject of “Developing Coordination for Under 10 Players”. You can download a (free!) copy of the CSSR here: http://goo.gl/JkGSn8.

Four Nations Championships: Congratulations to all the coaches and TCI members who played for Ireland recently in the Four Nations Championships in Bolton, England, including Tim Blomley, Liam Cassidy, Gillian Chandler, Justin Clarke, Deirdre Collins, Cormac Jennings, Gary Kilduff, John Maguire, Willie Reynolds, Siobhan Riordan and Joanne Wiliamson. Seems like most of the Irish team was made up of tennis coaches!

A NOTE FROM JOHN YANDELL at www.tennisplayer.net
If you want proof that core elements in pro technique are invisible to the human eye, there is no better example than Andy Murray’s serve. Why the drastic disparity in speed between his first and his second? How do his spin rates play into this? When you look at Andy’s motion at 500 frames per second, the absolute necessity of high-speed video in coaching has never been clearer…
